Meebo - IM Multi-Chat Protocol

Now we have all seen multi-chat protocol clients that allow you to sign into Yahoo Messenger, ICQ, MSN Messenger, AOL, AIM, Google Talk, etc in one central application like Trillian, Gaim and CenterICQ but they are all just another program to download and install.

What makes Meebo different is there is nothing to download and install! The applicantion totally works from their webpage.... this could be great for people travelling overseas and want to stay in touch, or perhaps your school or organization enforces security policies preventing you from installing applications etc.

Check it out for yourself, they do clearly state on the site that Meebo is lacking some features at the moment (like chatrooms in Yahoo) but the service is constantly being updated and they claim to personally answer every email for feature requests!

IM Market - Competition Heats Up !?

Late last week MySpace launched their very own instant messenger, MySpaceIM.

At first you could be mistaken for thinking the IM market is really heating up in the competition stakes! But really, is it? Of all the current IM applications, none of them have interoperability. So to keep in touch with all of your friends online you need to use, MSN Messenger (now Windows Live Messenger), Yahoo! Messenger, AIM, ICQ, Google Talk, Skype, and now MySpaceIM.

Yahoo and MSN gave us this little teaser to join forces by the first half of 2006, though they don't seem to be promoting that venture anymore.

So tell us, what is your favorite Instant Messenger and why?
